Meet The Founder

Caitlyn Schollmeier is a Certified Nurse Midwife, Registered Nurse, and U.S. Air Force veteran who has spent her career caring for mothers and families through every stage of pregnancy, birth, and postpartum.

Her journey into maternal health began during her military service, where she supported service members and their families as they navigated pregnancy and childbirth. After leaving the military, Caitlyn continued her path in Labor and Delivery, working as both a nurse and a birth doula. Those years at the bedside gave her a unique perspective on what labor and birth truly look like, physically, emotionally, and spiritually.

It was during this time that she began to recognize how much a person’s mental and emotional space can impact their experience of birth. She saw firsthand how the small details, comfort, dignity, confidence, could completely transform a laboring person’s mindset. Out of that realization, she sketched her first Lila Birth Gown, designed to help women feel beautiful, capable, and seen during one of the most powerful moments of their lives.

Enhancing the experience of parenthood became Caitlyn’s mission, not just through better products, but through a deep dedication to caring for women in a way that honors both their strength and their vulnerability.

Caitlyn Schollmeier founder of LILA

In 2020, life turned upside down. Caitlyn and her husband, Matt, had just been told that their landlord was selling their rental home, the very same month their twins were due. With nowhere to go, Caitlyn was admitted to the hospital for six weeks of bedrest due to pregnancy complications.

Confined to her hospital room, she wore the gown she had designed for herself, a soft, functional, and beautiful alternative to the cold, clinical hospital gowns she had seen countless women labor in. One day, she shared a short video of it on TikTok.

That video went viral overnight.

Suddenly, expectant mothers from around the world were asking where they could buy one. From her hospital bed, Caitlyn built a website, opened pre-orders, and launched her new company, Lila, right from the hospital.

But life had more in store. Her twins were diagnosed with additional complications and were born prematurely, spending their early weeks in the NICU. Caitlyn had already set her launch date, and refused to give up. From the NICU, she launched Lila and sold out of 2,500 pre-orders in less than two hours.

When her babies were finally discharged, Caitlyn and Matt brought them home to a camper trailer in the middle of winter, the only place they had to live. From that tiny space, surrounded by newborns and boxes, they packed every order by hand.

Over the next four and a half years, Lila grew into a multi-million-dollar brand with five patented gown designs, four size ranges, and unmatched inclusivity. Today, Lila is the only labor and birthwear company on the market founded by a Labor and Delivery nurse turned Certified Nurse Midwife, someone who has lived, breathed, and cared for birth from every angle.

At Lila, we believe that every person deserves to feel empowered, beautiful, and respected in birth.

Our mission is to uplift mothers, not just through what they wear, but through how they feel during one of life’s most transformative experiences. Every gown we design reflects our belief that dignity, comfort, and confidence are essential to safe and satisfying birth experiences.

Founded by someone who has dedicated her life to the health, safety, and well-being of mothers and their babies, Lila stands as a testament to resilience, compassion, and the beauty of motherhood.
